The Step-by-Step Pre-School in Khayelitsha, Cape Town cares for more than 160 children who are aged from 1 to 6 years. Some of the children are orphaned, while others are HIV positive or disabled.
The Pre-School is situated in an area were severe poverty, neglect, poor nutrition, inadequate housing and sanitation is highly evident.
The FCC team chose to make a significant difference for the children at Step-by-Step. Fifty employees assisted with donations of various items and in addition conducted extensive maintenance to the school that included repairs to the toilets, ceilings, floors and walls; fixing the leaking roof; and painting a number of areas including the lockers and cupboards.
A wonderful range of donations were also provided such as educational toys and learning material, a fridge and stove, blankets, outdoor playing equipment and stationary.
The outside play area received much needed improvements including a new mural and a fresh coat of paint for the playground equipment.
