The team at Aspen Bad Oldesloe selected three projects for Mandela Day, namely Kindergarden Beste Frende, the Ronald McDoland Haus Lübeck  and an the Blaue Elefant after-school care club based in Bad Oldesloe.

The children's playgound was improved and gardening attended to at the Kindergarden, which cares for 140 children aged from 1 to 6 years.

Each year the Ronald McDonald Haus Lübeck provides a home-away-from-home for more than 250 families, so they can be accommodated close to their hospitalized children. The house comprises 12 apartments for family use and the Aspen team came to their aid by refurbishing the attic, attending to painting needs and sprucing up the garden.

The Blauer Elefant after-school club cares for the well being of some 25 children. There is a great shortage of care clubs for school children in Germany and this facility also provides seminars for young parents,  a meeting-group for young mothers after the birth of their baby and other relevant activities for the community. The Aspen team hosted a picnic at the little school after they had spent some time attending to the garden and repairing the flat tyres of the bicycles.
