Italian employees’ commitment to food redistribution

In celebration of Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday, for the fourth consecutive year Aspen Italy collaborated with Banco Alimentare, a non-profit organisation dedicated to collecting and distributing surplus food to the needy.

The Aspen team participated in the preparation of food for redistribution purposes thereby contributing to feeding some of the more than 2 million poor people across Italy who Banco Alimentare feed on an ongoing basis.

Banco Alimentare has an innovative way of working with profit and non-profit organizations through its triple bottom line approach that has economic, social,environmental and cultural benefits, including:

  • Social benefits: surplus foods donated to the poor;
  • Economic benefits: reduced cost of food stocks and wastage;
  • Environmental and Cultural benefits: encouraging the nation to avoid wasting food and to respect the environment.

Aspen Italy’s employees agree that participation in this programme reminds them of the fortunate position that they are in while they help to feed less fortunate, hungry communities.
