Aspen Venezuela's employees were extremely excited about participating in their first Mandela Day activities. This team selected ABANSA (Asociación Benefactora de Ayuda al Niño Sin Asistencia) as their beneficiary.
ABANSA cares primarily for abandoned and orphaned children across Caracas. The staff of Aspen Venezuela actively engaged with ABANSA on Mandela Day and will continue supporting this worthy beneficiary.
Primary attention was paid to repairs and enhancements to the ABANSA's Caracas House. The front of the house and main entrance was re-painted and decorated and ceilings were be installed. The children's rooms were refurbished, with doors replaced on the cupboards and ceiling fans installed in five bedrooms. The stairs of this three-storey house were made more child friendly with anti-slip strips fitted to each stair for the children's safety.
A range of donations were collected from Aspen's employees, its suppliers and customers as well as the South African Embassy in Venezuela. These items include much needed clothing, personal hygiene products, school supplies, non perishable foodstuffs, educational toys and fans.
The children were also be treated to a wonderful party on Mandela Day and each received a gift of a toy.
The remaining ABANSA houses in Venezuela were also been taken care of and received clothes, personal hygiene items, school supplies, non perishable foodstuffs and educational toys from Aspen's employees, its suppliers and customers.
About ABANSA (Asociación Benefactora de Ayuda al Niño Sin Asistencia)
ABANSA is a Caracas-based charity, established in 1985 for abandoned children. Their primary aim is to prevent juvenile delinquency and maladaptation of future generations by providing assistance to orphans, abandoned children, children living under precarious circumstances or needing special attention. ABANSA has numerous children's homes across Venezuela.
The organisation currently maintains 7 such “family homes” where at present 250 children are assisted. They range from as young as one month to 18 years with approximately 40 Christian adults from different educational backgrounds working for the Association to help the children.
