Supporting education in remote Sakya, Tibet

The beneficiary of our 2025 Mandela Day campaign was Sakya County Middle School in Tibet, the only middle school in Sakya County. This school undertakes the crucial responsibility of educating over 1 800 children from the entire agricultural and pastoral areas. Situated at an altitude of more than 4 400 meters, the school endures extremely harsh living and learning conditions year-round, characterised by frigid temperatures and oxygen scarcity.

Earlier this year, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck the local area, causing severe damage to the school’s buildings. As a result, the school is in urgent need of supplementary educational supplies for its students. Guided by Nelson Mandela’s enduring values of care, hope, and equality, our Mandela Day initiative for this year is “Bring meaningful support to students and teachers.”

The initiative was officially launched by Mr Roger Liu, General Manager of Aspen China, at the Shanghai office. In his opening address, he encouraged all employees to participate in the decoration activity. 

In addition, Aspen China donated more than 200 books, stationery and laptops to the school which demonstrating our collective commitment to supporting education in the remote mountainous area.
