Caring for some 1 000 children by embracing leadership as service and empathy as a tool for change
Globally, Aspen is known for its empathy, solidarity, responsibility, and dedication to improving the well-being and quality of life for vulnerable communities. The objective of this activity was to make a positive social and environmental impact, particularly benefiting over 1 000 children attending this school through a facility improvement day that included painting play areas and common spaces to support their educational development.

A team of 30 volunteers from Colombia carried out different interactive activities strengthening the integration between the children, youth, and Aspen collaborators. Our volunteers were divided into three teams to facilitate the activities: To facilitate the activities, we divided into three teams as follows:
Children aged 6 to 8, where a focus was placed on the importance of developing and embracing healthy habits. Together, we had a fun time creating a song which was presented to all the children at the Foundation. We also distributed dental care kits to reinforce the importance of personal self-care.
Children aged 9 to 12, focusing on supporting the beautification of certain areas of the foundation. Three educational games were painted on the floor to reinforce learning in mathematics, values, and concentration. Additionally, some of the common railings were painted, and we left materials so they could continue painting other areas in need of intervention.
Adolescents aged 13 to 16, with the activity centered on recreation and skill development. We know that ping pong is one of their hobbies, so Aspen donated a professional table along with rackets and balls, responding to their love for the sport. During the day, the volunteer team shared basic playing techniques and held friendly matches, creating a space for hands-on learning.

The enthusiastic team from Aspen Colombia also donated time to improve the Foundation’s infrastructure and ensure its continuity as a safe and welcoming space for the community of Ciudad Bolívar. This support included urgent structural repairs, providing items to replace damaged furniture, and sharing essential food supplies to ensure adequate nutritional for the beneficiaries.

Representing Aspen Andina, the volunteer team from Colombia positively impacted nearly 1 000 children and adolescents through a meaningful day of interaction as part of the 15th anniversary of Mandela Day. The collaborators spent valuable time with the participants, leading recreational activities, workshops, and spaces for conversation.
The day was a transformative experience for the volunteers, who embraced leadership as service and empathy as a tool for change.
