Hope for three worthy beneficiaries
On 18 August 2025, Aspen and Fine Chemicals Corporation proudly hosted uplifting and memorable Mandela Day celebrations which brought together our team and beneficiaries to honour Nelson Mandela’s enduring legacy.
A combined sponsorship of R120 000 was presented to Leliebloem Children’s House, Fikelela Children's Home and Life Circle Development Centre. These funds are being used for essential facility repairs, feeding programmes, and clothing for recipients who are desperate for basic necessities.
"What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead."
Nelson Mandela
The day was filled with meaningful interactions and shared experiences that reminded us of the power of community and the importance of giving back. Through a series of engaging activities, we created a space where joy, dignity, and connection flourished. Whether through storytelling or simply spending quality time together, the events reflected the true spirit of Mandela Day: making a positive difference through small, consistent acts of kindness.
Our beneficiaries were at the heart of the celebrations, and their presence made the day truly special. It was inspiring to witness their enthusiasm and gratitude, reinforcing our commitment to uplifting and empowering those we serve.
Our donation to Leliebloem Children's House provides for essential facility and transport maintenance, food parcels, uniforms, stationery and shoes for the young students. Leliebloem was founded in 1868. The centre takes care of more than 60 children from 4 to 18 years of age. These children have been removed from troubled homes by Child Protection Agencies and placed at Leliebloem for two years through the Children’s Court for specialist care and intervention programmes provided at the centre.
Leliebloem cares for children from single-parent families where unemployment, alcohol, or drug abuse is prevalent. Some children are neglected and abused, either sexually, physically, or emotionally, while others are at risk due to poor parental control, emotional or physical deprivation. A number have lost a parent, or guardian, or have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

The funds donated to Fikelela Children's Home, which was founded in 2001, were used to provide winter jackets for the children, bedding and repairs to the bathrooms and showers. Fikelela is situated in Khayelitsha township on the outskirts of Cape Town. It began in 2001 as an outreach program of the Fikelela AIDs project. Fikelela provides safe, secure, and nurturing home-based care for up to 40 children from birth to 8 years of age. The children are either affected by or infected with HIV/AIDS. All the children at Fikelela have been abandoned or orphaned, neglected, or abused. Many of the children in Fikelela's care are nursed back to health and put on antiretroviral medication, as needed, under the supervision of trained healthcare professionals.
Life Circle Development Centre was most grateful for their donation which will be used for uniforms, computer repairs, basic cooking needs and activity kits for the children. This centre, situated in Mfuleni. promotes independence for 15 young and elderly people with disabilities.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making this day special. Your generosity, enthusiasm, and commitment to service truly embody the spirit of Mandela Day. It is through these shared efforts that we continue to build a more inclusive and compassionate society.
As we reflect on this celebration, may we continue to carry the spirit of Mandela Day forward—not just on one day, but throughout the year as we serve, support, and inspire those around us.
