South Africa Durban
Making a difference for Durban’s children, the homeless and destitute
The team at our head office in La Lucia, Durban in South Africa participated in numerous Mandela Day activities from 18 to 22 July 2022.
Aspen Holdings donated R30,000 as well as cleaning supplies to the Durban Child & Youth Care Centre (“DC&YCC”), a long-standing beneficiary and partner of our annual Mandela Day activities.
DC&YCC provides a safe and nurturing home for children who have been orphaned, abused or neglected, as well as those suffering from chronic life threatening illnesses or disability.
Although the Centre receives a government subsidy for each child, this is nowhere near the real cost of caring. Donations to this NPO helps provide food, shelter, education, medical care and the therapeutic programmes these children need to overcome their unhappy past and develop into confident, happy young people.
Our employees also rallied together to show care for the homeless by making and distributing 3 300 sandwiches and serving more than 250 hot meals to displaced and hungry individuals. Some 330 blankets were also donated to ward off the winter cold.
