Contributing towards empowering persons with disabilities
This charitable non-profit, non-governmental organisation is based in Ipoh, Perak, and was founded by the Canning Garden Methodist Church in 1992. The centre serves individuals with autism, Down syndrome, physical disabilities, visual impairments, and mental health challenges.
It aims to help them discover their strength, build confidence, and secure their rightful place in the community. Through a combination of vocational and skills training, employment support, and social integration, Persatuan Daybreak enables its trainees to live independent, meaningful lives with purpose, dignity, and inclusion.
Aspen Malaysia’s employees engaged in a series of hands-on activities designed to improve the centre’s facilities and directly support its trainees through key tasks:
Painting Yellow Safety Boxes
We repainted the yellow safety zone markings around the centre, improving visibility and contributing to a safer and more organised environment for the trainees.

Soil Mixing and Propagation Support
We prepared nutrient-rich soil mixtures for planting activities and assisted trainees in basic plant propagation techniques to help expand the plant nursery.

Moss Scraping and Nursery Maintenance
To ensure a clean and safe work environment, the team removed moss buildup from pavements and plant pots around the nursery area.

One of the most impactful aspects of the day was the opportunity to interact directly with the trainees.
Our team worked side-by-side on actual contract work assignments, such as packing, sorting, and assembling items for external clients.
This experience not only deepened our understanding of the trainees’ capabilities and potential but also uplifted their confidence and sense of teamwork. In addition, Aspen Malaysia donated work tables and a LCD projector to be used for training at the centre for ongoing development of the trainees.

The day ended with a heartwarming and lively birthday celebration for trainees born in July. Everyone gathered to celebrate the cake cutting ceremony and joined in singing, a group photo session and feasting on a delicious chicken meal. The festivities certainly brought smiles and laughter to the trainees and the Daybreak volunteers. Through this meaningful Mandela Day initiative, Aspen Malaysia is proud to have contributed to a more inclusive and supportive community.
