Dominican Republic

This powerful moment also marks Aspen’s 15th year supporting the global Mandela Day initiative, reinforcing our commitment to making a meaningful difference.

This year’s theme centered on volunteerism and community impact, with diverse activities focused on local needs. From environmental efforts to heartfelt visits, our teams brought hope and joy to vulnerable populations.

Hogar de ancianas nuestra señora del Carmen in the Dominican Republic is a long-term nursing home for some 50 elderly people who have no resources. Operated with a spirit of altruism, this non-profit home was opened in Temuco in 1943,

and it has been a haven to the elderly ever since. The beautiful gardens, spacious and bright living spaces, and the loving care of the sisters, make this residence a home where everyone lives together with respect and love for one another.

Aspen Caricam’s team from the Dominican Republic did more than celebrate Mandela Day with these elderly residents. They celebrated life with these aged folk, many of whom suffer from mild to severe dementia. The residents were thrilled by the treats, gifts, companionship and the joy of dancing the day away with Aspen’s volunteers

Witnessing their contagious happiness sums up the success of this inspiring activity and underscores the notion that small acts of kindness make the world of difference to those who need it most. It also aligns directly to Aspen’s ethos of caring for those in need beyond medicine and restoring dignity where it may have been lost.

Aspen Caricam’s initiatives in the Dominican Republic reflect the spirit of Nelson Mandela, reminding us that each act of kindness contributes to a more just and compassionate world.

We are deeply proud of every Aspen Caricam employee who gave their time, energy, and heart. Each of them is an agent of change, proudly inspired by Mandela’s legacy.
