Strength, community, and compassion at the Power Dog Competition

The Mira Foundation is a well‑established non‑profit organisation in Quebec dedicated to increasing the autonomy and social inclusion of individuals living with visual or physical disabilities, as well as youth with autism spectrum disorder.

Since 1981, Mira has provided thousands of highly trained guide dogs and assistance dogs to beneficiaries across the province at no charge to the recipient. Their mission is rooted in the principle of bodily equality: what is accessible to everyone should also be accessible to people living with disabilities. Mira’s programmes aim to enhance independence, improve mobility and orientation skills, and offer personalised support plans tailored to each beneficiary’s needs.

On June 6th, 2026, Aspen Canada’s Joannie Potvin proudly volunteered at Mira’s annual Power Dog Competition, a major fundraising CrossFit event that brings together athletes and supporters from across Quebec.

This year, more than 500 athletes participated, which helped raise $182,000 that will directly fund the training of five new assistance dogs. Each dog will transform the life of someone living with a disability.

Joannie spent the day supporting the smooth running of the event. Her responsibilities included welcoming athletes, distributing competition materials such as t‑shirts and posters, and assisting participants with any questions they had throughout at the event. It was a dynamic, inspiring environment where community spirit and compassion were truly palpable.

"Participating in this event was a meaningful experience, and I am proud to support an organisation that provides life‑changing services to so many individuals across Quebec. What a beautiful day of solidarity, community, and purpose!”

Joannie Potvin.
