Supporting young patients with chronic renal conditions

Chronic kidney disease does not occur overnight. It happens slowly and in stages. However, if detected in time, it can be treated and stave off chronic renal failure.

Casa de Acogida Mater in San Miguel provides medical treatment for Chilean infants and children who experience renal complications. This facility’s hospitality extends to accommodate a family member or a caregiver who is supporting the young patient receiving treatment at the hospital.

As a gesture of ongoing care, generosity and commitment, the team from Aspen Chile arranged a special event at the hospital in honour of Mandela Day. A group of 10 employees planted a garden which will provide access to fresh fruit and vegetables. This initiative ensures that there is a source of healthy food, and it contributes to the overall well-being of the children and their caregivers. In addition, the team handed over donations of new linen for the rooms where families or caregivers are accommodated to provide them with greater comfort while they stay at the host house. Aspen volunteers also spent time with the caregivers who need encouragement and support due to the challenges they are experiencing.
