The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Woman and Children is a one-step centre for woman and children who are survivors of abuse. Their vision is to create a safe and secure society and a human rights culture where woman and children are empowered to exercise their full rights.
Cape Town-based Fine Chemicals Corporation (FCC) supports the protection and development of women and children, and members of the team spent the day facilitating skills workshops on how to prepare a CV, how to conduct a job interview and jewelry making to generate an income. The ladies also received a class in self-defense techniques.
The centre has a wide range of needs and FCC donated books for their library, blankets, bedding and heaters. Additional donations from FCC employees included toiletries, clothing and non-perishable foods. The kids received attention with face painting and storytelling finishing the day off with a lunch.
The team left the center with the woman feeling more empowered and ready to face the future.
