Two months of commitment to make a difference for Casasistencia IAP’s children
This year, at Aspen Mexico, we honored the fifteenth commemoration of Nelson Mandela’s legacy by dedicating two months, and so much more than 67 minutes, to support the children of Casasistencia IAP.
Over the course of nearly two months, our collaborators carried out various activities, including selling French fries, baguettes, basket tacos, gelatin desserts, Italian sodas, and jewelry, and hosting raffles and health conferences to raise funds. Aspen matched the amount collected and donated it to Casasistencia IAP, an organization that provides care for children in vulnerable situations.

Casasistencia currently supports a population of 26 children, ranging from newborns to those who are six years old. The donation will be used to purchase school supplies, furniture, and uniforms, and to carry out repairs and maintenance to the shelter’s facilities to improve the children’s quality of life. Additionally, it will help acquire medications, vaccines, and medical office furniture.
After the fundraising period, we organized a volunteer initiative over two days. The first day focused on the children’s health in collaboration with healthcare professionals and included the administration of measles and hepatitis vaccines, dental check-ups, the delivery of medical equipment and child health and hygiene kits.

On the second day of volunteering, Aspen employees and members of the South African Embassy in Mexico including Ambassador Beryl Rose Sisulu, carried out maintenance work on the playground. We trimmed the grass, bushes, and palm trees, removed weeds, and cleaned the play structures. We also painted the medical office, hallway, common room, and the courtyard of the shelter.
Afterwards, we hosted a magic show for the children, who joyfully enjoyed the moment. Finally, we participated in the donation ceremony and concluded with a gathering where we shared food with the children. This experience left a lasting impression on every volunteer and allowed us to truly live according to Nelson Mandela’s call.
